Tiger sharks

Tiger shark
behaviour

Curious. Confident. Misunderstood.

Understanding how tiger sharks move, investigate and communicate is the key to a calm, respectful encounter.

Curiosity

Investigating the unknown

Tiger sharks often approach slowly and in wide circles to check what is new in their environment, including divers. A calm diver in a stable position is quickly accepted as part of the scenery.

Body language

Reading the signals

Relaxed swimming, smooth turns and a steady pace are normal behaviour. Our guides watch for changes in speed, posture or direction and manage the dive accordingly.

Hierarchy

Sharing the space

Several tiger sharks can be present at the same time. Larger animals usually move with more confidence while smaller ones keep their distance, creating a constantly changing scene.
