Is it safe to dive with tiger sharks?

Every dive follows a strict protocol: full briefing, fixed positions on the bottom, experienced guides watching the sharks at all times and small groups. Encounters are calm and controlled.

How close do the sharks come?

Tiger sharks often pass very close to the group. Your guide manages the distance and tells you exactly how to behave.

Can I touch or feed the sharks?

No. Divers never touch, chase or feed the sharks. We observe them respecting their natural behaviour.

Are tiger sharks seen on every dive?

Tiger sharks are present in Fuvahmulah all year and encounters at Tiger Garden are very frequent, but they are wild animals and sightings can never be guaranteed.

How deep are the dives?

Tiger Garden is shallow, around 8–12 metres. Other sites can go deeper, depending on your certification.

How long is each dive?

The tiger shark dive lasts about 30 minutes. Other dives usually last 40–50 minutes depending on depth and air.

Are there currents?

Some sites have strong currents. Your guide chooses the sites according to conditions and the experience of the group.

What certification do I need?

We recommend Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) and good buoyancy control. Contact us if you are unsure: we will find the right option for your level.

Can beginners dive with tiger sharks?

Experience and good buoyancy are important. We may suggest some fun dives first so you are comfortable before the tiger shark dive.

Can I do a course with you?

Yes, we teach SSI courses. Contact us with your current level and dates.

Do I need dive insurance?

Yes, dive insurance that covers recompression treatment is strongly recommended.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Your safety comes first: if conditions are not suitable we change the dive site or reschedule the dive.

When is the best season?

Tiger sharks can be seen all year. Other species are seasonal — see the season chart on our Diving Fuvahmulah page.
